Obesity Today
Obesity has become a serious medical problem for Americans. Obesity statistics show that two-thirds of the US adult population and one-fifth our children/adolescence are overweight or obese.  While our efforts to reduce obesity with diet and exercise routines are helping, we could also benefit from some additional support to reach our weight loss goals.  Acupuncture treatments can help advance our weight loss while reducing stress and balancing the energy in our body.

Going to Extremes
People will go to drastic measures to lose weight.  Fad diets may work in the short term because of the low caloric intake, but there is absolutely no way you can keep it up.  Your body and mind will rebel and take revenge for putting it on such a restrictive regime, rather than providing whole foods with proper nutrients.  Instinctively, your body will crave foods and gorge, filling up, terrified of and preparing for the next starvation, packing on fat for stored energy.
Acupuncture addresses both the physiological and psychological aspects of weight loss.  A comprehensive therapy for weight issues rooted in traditional Chinese medicine can help to energize the body, maximize nutrient absorption, improve metabolism, promote the elimination of water, toxins and waste, as well as to reduce anxiety.

A Total Health Program
A good weight loss program includes nutritional counseling and exercise as well as a commitment to make permanent lifestyle changes. Acupuncture is a powerful tool for healthy weight loss as a supportive treatment in conjunction with a weight management program. In a recent study published in the J. Med. Acupuncture (2003), participants receiving acupuncture lost more than three times more weight than the control group.

The Acupuncture Weight Loss Treatment
An acupuncturist will start with a comprehensive examination that includes your medical history. The intake will help the acupuncturist determine which treatment would be best for your health and to increase your weight loss. Acupuncture points on the body will be chosen for overall well being with the objective to increase blood circulation to the digestive organs, stimulate metabolism while calming the nervous system.  The beauty of acupuncture is the each treatment is catered to the needs of the individual patient.
In the struggle to eat less and expend more energy, you may find that acupuncture is just what was needed to overcome cravings, boost energy, enhance your metabolism and increase your willpower to succeed!
